Man Accused of Putting Daughter in Microwave
SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - The father of a 22-month-old girl has been charged with child abuse for putting her in a microwave oven, police said Saturday.
Gerald Leroy Salais, 22, put his daughter in the microwave at her grandmother's house last Sunday to discipline her, police said.
He turned the power on, but it was unclear whether he also pushed the "cook" button, which would have started the microwave, police said.
The girl, Jessica, was not burned but suffered some bruises. She was taken to a hospital for observation and released Thursday to her grandmother.
Salais was charged with first-degree child abuse and exposing a child with intent to injure, both felonies.
Salais was arrested Friday and was being held in the Saginaw County Jail in this city about 90 miles northwest of Detroit. He was scheduled for arraignment Monday
